Preparing for the Big Day
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
Sunday Apr 10, 2022
We have a hard time trusting God because we can’t see the full, master plan. It can be difficult to trust God for just that next step and His daily provision. This involves constant faith and trust. But this also allows consistent opportunity to see God show up and show off in miraculous ways!

Double Up, a capital campaign, in 2017 was the Vision to “Double the Reach/Double the Growth.” We wanted to double the reach by having double the amount of room in River Valley. We did this by building 2 campuses (new River Valley Worship Center & God of Mercy Baptist Church in Leon, Nicaragua). We also wanted to double the growth by doubling the amount of giving and doubling the personal, spiritual growth in the River Valley family.

Luke 11:1-4 challenges our distorted view of God as “Father.” We can sometimes have a hard time understanding God as our heavenly Father, because of experiences we’ve had with our earthly fathers. But scripture serves to correct our vision and show us who God really is and what He is like.

Relationship is more important than rules. That isn't to say that rules are unimportant or unnecessary. Rules and boundaries are something that we need. They are for our good and should help point us to Jesus. But often times the rules can become about a checklist of just doing things and we miss the Messiah.

Jews would normally insist on avoiding the road to Samaria. But in John 4:1-43, Jesus insisted on traveling through Samaria, on his way to Galilee. He had a spiritual appointment with a specific woman, at a specific location, to heal a specific need. The same invitation (living water for a thirsty soul) is available for us!

When we give our life to Jesus, we become part of the family of God. Learning to be brothers and sisters in Christ can often be a challenge when we’ve been raised/taught in different cultures, backgrounds, classes, etc.

We have been looking at what the Bible says about being intentionally multi-ethnic as we reach, help, and connect in our community. Now we look more specifically at what the Bible says about interpersonal relationships regarding ethnicity.

James is likely writing to an audience of Jewish believers in James 1:19-27 that had a strong, moral upbringing but struggled to love their neighbors. It was easy for these believers to look down on their Gentile neighbors and point out the sins of the people that were different than them. James challenges these Jewish believers (and us) to look at our own sins instead (sins like anger and pride) and to confront those sins.

The parable of the Good Samaritan is a teaching by Jesus, found in the gospel of Luke 10:25-37. Although Samaritans and Jews despised each other, this Samaritan took time, met the physical needs of the Jewish man, and shared the love of Jesus with him.

River Valley Texas
River Valley Christian Fellowship is a biblically sound, culturally relevant church that reaches families for Christ. River Valley is all about reaching people apart from God and helping connect them to Jesus. We are a 15 year old church that has never stopped acting like a church plant. Our founding Pastor is still here and the original vision is what we are still passionate about today. We have an expanded vision of being intentionally multi-ethnic as we reach, help and connect our community to Jesus.
